Diabetes Basics

Diabetes is a disorder in which the body cannot produce enough amounts of insulin for the use of the body or cannot use the insulin already available in the body. Insulin is a hormone that our body needs in order to convert the daily food intake into energy. Improper usage of insulin and/or lack of it can be life threatening however, even though there is no cure for diabetes there are many ways to efficiently keep it under control.

Different Types Of Diabetes

There are two main types of diabetes and they are type 1 and type 2. Type 1 diabetes usually occurs in children and therefore is also known as juvenile diabetes; here the body is unable to produce the required amounts of insulin in order for the body to convert the food and sugars into energy.

Type 2 diabetes, which is also the most common form found in most people of all ages is when the body cannot use the insulin already present in the body or is unable to produce any insulin in order to convert the food and sugar in the much needed energy for daily activities.
