Learn About The Existing Diabetes Types

Diabetes is a disease that interferes with the absorption of sugar from the blood to the cells of the body. When glucose is absorbed be cells it is transformed into energy and the body becomes active. This absorption is possible when the pancreas, an organ, which is situated behind the liver, produces insulin. Insulin is a hormone with the help of which the glucose from the blood can be broken up into components that can be absorbed by the cells.

Diabetes-affected people do not have sufficient insulin, and hence the sugar remains in the blood instead of being transformed into energy. The excess sugar is then excreted through urine. Since the body is unable to use the sugar ingested, complications set in which if left untreated, lead to death.

There Are Three Types Of Diabetes

There are three types of diabetes and these diabetes types are, (i) Type 1 diabetes, (ii) Type 2 diabetes, and (iii) Type 3 diabetes.

Type 1 diabetes – this diabetes type starts in the childhood and hence, it is also known as juvenile diabetes. This is basically the result of a deficiency of the autoimmune system of the body and requires the affected person to use insulin injections every day to manage the disease. This diabetes types happens when the body’s immunity system targets the pancreas beta cells instead of infection cells and hence, disables it from producing insulin. Early diagnosis and regular treatment can bring life to total normalcy.

It has been observed that women who are overweight are more prone to this type of diabetes than those who maintain their weight. There are other correlations between the gestational diabetes and type 2 diabetes. Often the person who is identified with type 3 diabetes will be suffering from type 2 diabetes as well. If not, they are likely to develop it in the course of the next 5-10 years.

Diabetes is a dangerous disease if left untreated or is not taken seriously. However, as long as the medication, diet and insulin shots are taken regularly, anyone suffering from diabetes can lead a very normal life.
